Betta Species:
|
Betta Splenden:
|
|
| Probably the best
known of the Betta species, because of it's fine finnage
and wonderful colour variations. The splenden is one of the most active
and exploited of the Betta species due to it's tolerance
of a variety of different conditions, many of which are not ideal. As a
notorious fighting fish, care needs to be taken to ensure that males are
kept separate from each other, and this is where the "Betta
Bowl" syndrome came from. It is not a good idea to keep any
fish in less than 2 gallons of water, with adequate filtering, but many
people disregard this when keeping Betta Splendens! |
|
Betta Pugnax:
|
|
| A lesser known variety,
but gaining in popularity. The Betta Pugnax is one of the
larger varieties of Betta, growing to around 5" in
adulthood. At Moore Aquatics, we are breeding these in our advanced fish
house and will be offering a good selection shortly. |
|
Betta Mahachai:
|
|
| An endangered species
of Betta, there has been a strong conservation movement
towards these rare Bettas of late. We have secured several breeding pairs
from the wild and are working towards building a stock in the U.K. of good
quality Mahachai that can be distributed to other breeding establishments
to further enhance the population. |
|
Betta Crowntail/Veiltail:
|
|
| Always popular amongst
breeders and enthusiasts, these Betta are regularly bred
for show quality. This has it's down-side though, as only the best tend
to survive and they are subjected to intensive selective breeding because
of this. At Moore Aquatics, we breed selectively to enhance the available
stocks with care and consideration for the species. Colours vary emensely
and a wide range can be found at most outlets. At the present time, we are
concentrating on a few of the more vivid reds and blues. |
